1. The Royal Welsh Show 20th – 23rd July

Huge and hugely entertaining, this is the biggest agricultural show in Europe. 100s of stalls and stands compete for your attention whilst 1000s of competitors battle it out for show glory and jaw dropping entertainment fills the main ring. This year’s highlights include the Kangaroo Kid’s daredevilry, “horse whisperer” Jean Francois Pignon’s stunning equestrian display and Titan the Robot.

2. Summer Steam Spectacular 18th July – 4th September

There’s something about steam trains that captures the imagination of old and young alike. The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway will be running trips through the beautiful scenery of Snowdonia all summer long between Porthmadog and Pen-y-Mount. And after July the Cambrian Coast main line will be opening up between Machynlleth, Barmouth and Porthmadog. Visits to the engine sheds give the kids a chance to clamber over the engines and discover how it all works.

It is a great article. I also found a good post of things to do for days out with kids. As I life in London, is it always quite a release when you get out of the city once in a while and this seems like a great destination to go to. It is always to easy to forget how fresh real air is without any of the smog filled air, or sirens polluted surroundings.
  • We will certainly be fossil hunting on Ogmore-by-sea beach and also walking along the downs to Dunraven Bay (Southerndown beach). There are some great fossils to find and also interesting rock formations.
We will be going to Gower and will certainly use the services of the sailing company based on Oxwich bay.
We will also be visiting Caswell Bay on Gower. Not only is it excellent for rockpool searches; you can go for a safe body surf with a 9 year old child!
