I was recently wondering around Splott, a less than polished area of Cardiff, developing my research into Cardiff's industrial past. Clifton Street in the north of Splott, once a busy high street is now sad and tired, and quite ready for its planned regeneration later this year. So I was not expecting to find a little gem of a restaurant in the middle of Clifton Street. According to the friendly serving staff, Canteen on Clifton Street is a new restaurant to Cardiff, with an inclusive menu serving vegetarians, vegans and omnivores. The menu is small but well chosen with freshly prepared, imaginative dishes. I had the Moroccan spicy lamb dish which was delicious, followed by the homemade sticky toffee pudding which was lovely. My future research work in the Splott area has now become significantly more attractive.
