What the papers say… Wales in print
The press has had plenty to say about Wales this last week and most of it good. VisitWales is not surprised.
The Daily Telegraph leads the pack with a great selection of fancy places to spend Christmas and New Year for “The ultimate festive house party”. As is only sensible, the list includes Felin Newydd, The Meeting Place, Yr Hendre, Egryn and Avilion (AKA “The Pepperpots”).
The Guardian celebrates the winter darkness in its Guide to the Night (hence the splendid starscape above). It picks out the Skirrid Mountain Inn, a former court and place of execution, as a top place to bump into a ghostly apparition. It now doubles as a public house so it’s also the ideal place to get some dutch courage afterwards. And by contrast, the paper reckons that watching the sunrise over Snowdonia from the vantage point of Llanfair PG is simply “unforgettable”.
The Sunday Times finds 6 of the best foodie breaks which gives top chef Matt Tebbutt a chance to wax lyrical on his adoptive county of Monmouthshire. Too modest to mention his own fine eaterie (The Foxhunter); The Walnut Tree Inn, the Hardwick and Usk Farmers’ Market are top of his list.
Last but not least, The Observer looks ahead to the new year for adventure holidays’ hot tips. Walking the spectacular Lleyn Peninsula takes its place alongside climbing the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and horse trekking in Kyrgyzstan as must do activities for 2010.
