Getting away from it all – Wales in the papers
The press have been hard at work to keep us all informed and entertained. Here are some of the things they had to say about Wales recently.
In The Times top funnyman Rhod Gilbert reveals, sensible chap, that these days he tends to holiday in Wales. It helps to keep his carbon footprint down and for him, even if the wind is howling on a winter’s night, the Mumbles is “still stunning”.
Getting away from it all with friends and family for the festive season is becoming quite the done thing. The Observer has 25 destinations of desire, perfect holiday hideaways for gathering together a crowd. Under the “Historic” heading we find Neuadd Cwmyoy in Abergavenny, a stylishly restored farmhouse of the 1500s that will comfortably sleep 16. Beaches are great places for winter walks and Sunrise Cottage, Saundersfoot couldn’t be closer to the sea, sleeps 10 and boasts glorious sea views.
The Daily Express urges you to “Slip away on a cottage holiday“. It considers Lavender Cottage, Pencelli best for young families. Ideally situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park, The Brecon Mountain Railway is close at hand as is Cantref Adventure Farm. Great walks are always available gratis along the Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal.
Speaking of carbon footprints, the National Cycle Collection’s valiant struggle to get a proper brown tourism road sign has made the news again. With over 250 machines on display, from the earliest Boneshakers to the latest featherlight Carbon Fibre models, this celebration of Man’s greatest invention truly deserves a sign and a visit too.
