Welsh film Sleep Furiously debuts in America

Welsh film – Sleep Furiously – premieres in New York City tomorrow (Friday July 29th) before opening in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cleveland and San Francisco.

If you’re unable to see it at those movie theaters, Fandor are making it available online for you to watch.

Shot from Sleep FuriouslySo why is the film one to watch for fans of Wales? It’s set in Wales, filmed in Wales, written and directed by Welshman Gideon Koppel and has a soundtrack by Welsh musician Aphex Twin.

Sleep Furiously is an art house film which has received great acclaim since its release in the UK. It won the Best First Film of 2010 by the Guardian and scored a rare five star rating in Time Out London. The Evening Standard described the film as: “the most beautifully elemental documentary film to have emerged in Britain in over a decade.”

Filmmaker Gideon Koppel’s debut feature, Sleep Furiously, is a haunting, elegiac documentary portrait of Trefeurig, the Welsh farming community where he grew up. Scenes from the film are set in Wales and show off the country’s stunning beauty.

This clip shows scenes from the film set to music by Aphex Twin:
