Shake it up at the Elvis Festival, Porthcawl

Little or large, festivals provide a great day out or short break. So if you’re looking for inspiration on where to go and what do, here’s our round up of “don’t miss” festivals in Wales during 2012…

Hay Festival
31 May – 10 June 2012
The little town of books hosts a big literary festival with a global reach. This it’s the 25th anniversary so it’s sure to be extra special.

Machynlleth Comedy Festival
4 – 6 May 2012
If you’re looking for laughs head to one of Wales’ most historic town Machynlleth. A weekend of live stand up comedy is waiting for you featuring famous and up coming comedians from all of the UK.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week
23 June – 1 July 2012
Surround yourself with locally-caught fish and shellfish. Tastings, masterclasses, talks, special menus, courses and fishing trips take place at around 200 venues throughout Pembrokeshire.

Cardiff Summer Festival
various dates through July – August 2012
Summer in the city, and Cardiff’s buzzing with life and entertainment – street theatre, live music, comedy, drama and funfair rides. It’s one of the UK’s largest free outdoor festival.

Royal Welsh Show
23 -26 July 2012
Britain’s most popular agricultural show, but it’s not all about cows and sheep. Live music, stunt displays, craft stalls, food and much more come together to create a bustling mix of town and country.

Green Man Festival
17 – 19 August 2012
The independent music festival is getting more and more popular each year. Set in the beautiful Brecon Breacons it features folk music and a happy, relaxed hippy scene.

Abergavenny Food Festival
15 – 16 September 2012
Tickle your taste buds at one of the biggest events on the UK foodie calendar. Slow food, good food, demonstrations, masterclasses, TV chefs and celebrities are all on Abergavenny’s massive menu.

The Porthcawl Elvis Festival
28 – 30 September 2012
Dig out those blue suede shoes, Elvis is in town. ‘The King’ lives on, thanks to the dozens of tribute acts from all over the world that travel to Porthcawl each year to perform in the biggest Elvis festival in Europe.

SWN Festival
October 2012
The capital of Wales comes alive as SWN hits Cardiff. At venues across the city you will find gigs celebrating the music coming into and out of Wales.

Abertoir Horror Festival
November 2012
Abertoir is the UK’s longest horror-specific festival and features cult film screenings as well as special guests, talks, live music and master classes.
